Ray Lamontagne's star has been steadily rising. After two great and rather intimate studio albums, 2008's Gossip In The Grain
opened up a whole new can of the singer/songwriter's talent. Gossip in the grain was one big patchwork of excellent songs that covered a whole spectrum of emotions and genres, earning him the status of a modern soulgod (Lucinda Williams even compared him to Otis Redding).
The gig in Brussels was sold out long before this album ever reached belgian store shelves though. Apparently his live reputation alone was sufficient to fill the Royal Circus
As a supporting act, Ray brought us Priscilla Ahn
. And it has to be said, from the very start to the end she was able to capture the audience's attention. The combination of playing guitar and harmonica while singing and sampling her own voice was pretty impressive. Later on she would also whip out a kazoo and even a ukelele. Musically, Priscilla combines the melodramatic sillyness of Jens Lekman with the character of young country-inspired damsels like Norah Jones…
