    Most Recent Update:
04/21/11 - Added Raul Midon and Ingrid Michaelson shows.

2 Skinnee J's (2) - Toad's Place Newhaven CT, Rocks Off NYC Boat Cruise Reunion Show NY Harbor NYC
~A byproduct of my Rustic obsession, the J's were headlining a show down in CT that PSC and Rocktopus opened. B and I took the opportunity to see the two bands formed out of Rustic play together and made the trip south. What we weren't expecting was the spectacle of the J's. Having only heard snippets of songs we were both blown away by their showmanship and lyrical abilities. Following that show (which we ended up having to leave early to get back home) we got our hands on as much J's material as possible. Unfortunately, the band went on a 3 year hiatus before reuniting for a series of shows in July of '05, an event Brandon and I had no intention of missing. We took the train down to NYC and rocked out on the water with the J's and a couple hundred other devoted fans. …

  • Esbjörn Svensson Tribute Concert

    20 Jun 2008, 11:39 by barna

I'm still feeling very sad about the tragical loss of Esbjörn Svensson.
I've read the manager saying that "Some 60-70 people, including jazz star Pat Metheny, had called throughout the day to offer their condolences."
That's what got me to the idea: all the musicians who had played with Esbjörn could unite for an evening and could pay tribute for Esbjörn by playing some E.S.T. music and other great tunes.
I've got some ideas for the artists, like Pat Metheny, Nils Landgren, Viktoria Tolstoy, Raul Midón and of course Magnus Öström and Dan Berglund (E.S.T.).
What do you guys say about this? Any idea for additional musicians?

    Whooow,
I saw him on tv during North Sea Jazz in Rotterdam. Damn this guy is amazing, The way he plays his gitar (like a complete band) and his mouth trumpet. Just amazing.

November 18th it was finaly my turn to see him live in Utrecht (Tivoli). It was great, it was wonderfull. Me and my girl had a perfect evening. He performed songs from "world within a World" and played some of "state of mind". After the concert he signed cd's. So I bought them both, SIGNED. hahaha, Nice autograph. (picture will follow soon)

I surprised myself and went all alone to see Don Johnson Big Band and Lemonator last Thursday (Tammerfest at Tampere). I almost did go to see Tiktak, which was at the other stage at the same time than Lemonator, but then I decided not to pay of two gigs if I'm not going to be there the whole gig. So I decided to see Tiktakand Stella some other time.

I didn't remember how nice Lemonator actually was! They also covered Black Coffee, and it was quite good.

But mainly I was there because DJBB. They are so much better live, they are funny and active! They did the "I like to move it, move it!" part from I Like to Move It, though they didn't remember who was the original performer. They remembered the song from movie Madagascar and they actually did it also in Finnish "Mun täytyy veivaa, veivaa!" For little while their vocalist sang that horrible Gasolina, which I believe is Daddy Yankee's song?

I wish they are as good at Pori Jazz, there are also Carla Bley, Raul Midón and Kanye West at that day.
