There are multiple bands going by the name Rat Trap

1. Rat Trap is a hardcore band hailing from the mean streets of Charlestown, Massachusetts. The band originally formed in 2010 under the name Paul Allen’s Demise. The group decided to change its name after several line-up changes and the adoption of a new musical direction. Rat Trap strives to create hard music while avoiding the generic bullshit that is killing the music scene. Check out the albums released under the old name to get a taste for what the music is, and come out to one of our many New England shows to hear it in its raw form.

2. Rat Trap started when Grant and Parker began hanging out a lot until one day, they decided they wanted to play music. Parker had never had a drum lesson, Grant had never had a guitar lesson. But that didn’t matter.

The first “songs” made by the duo were generally short and noisy, and what could be classified as “instrumental garage punk”. It was shit.

Not much happened for a couple months except that actually listenable songs were slowly taking form as Grant started recording demos in his garage.

Rat Trap became what you could consider an actual band in summer 2010 with the addition of Aaron on the bass and Sean on the guitar. With a full band and a dozen or so songs under their belt, Rat Trap started playing local gigs around Santa Cruz at little venues.

Oliver Tuescher and his mad violin skills were added to the band in October 2010 and shortly afterward the band went into Gadgetbox Studios with produced Jeremy Cross to record their first album. The 10 song debut “The Western Boundary” was released on March 3rd 2011 along with the bands biggest and best show at Don Quixotes Hall of Music in Felton.
