Already a fan of progressive rock and looking to branch out, I bought the "Solstice" album back in 1974, purely on a whim; the back cover photos showing an acoustic guitarist, drummer, soprano saxophonist and an electric upright player intrigued me. It was my introduction to Towner and ECM - both of which became lifelong favorites - and opened doors into different worlds of sound, composition, atmosphere and musicianship, well beyond what I'd known. I still listen to it; in fact, I awaken to "Drifting Petals" every day. Nothing like starting one's day with such grace and beauty.

back in the 90s, on a rainy morning in bombay, a friend presented me a tape that has this album, and garbarek's witchi -tai-to -- this was my intro to jazz. its been almost 20 years, as ethereal as ever..jah bless ECM records !
