In 1988 I was studying at the “Hochschule der Künste” Berlin, where I met Edgar. Weeks later he gave me a call because he was looking for a keyboard player - a replacement for a guy who departed from the band. Couple of days later we saw each other again in Edgar’s studio. We did listen to quite a few tapes of my playing. It was kind of an audition I had to go through. After about one hour I had the job for being the third keyboard player on their forthcoming North American tour.

In the 70’s and 80’s I saw a couple of shows of TD (unforgettable the event at the “Berlin Reichstag” with an audience of nearly 500.000 people!), unbelievable to be a part of this legend in synthesizer music.

We started practicing in a studio near Vienna the band regulary used for setting things up for touring. It was a very professional athmosphere and a hard time of working through their massive body of song material they wanted to use for this tour.

Why did Edgar call me in the first place? I still really don’t know, but I think he was interested in the way I used to play synthesizers and could understand the way the band wanted to sound like. Also my unusual fast understanding of what’s needed to make things work on stage did attract him.

We did the tour and also a few productions later in 1988 - 90. Unfortunately I had to quit the job – one of the reasons was the birth of my son Julian. It’s nearly impossible to travel round the world making music (and, believe me, TD are real workaholics!) and to care for a baby. Sorry!
