Rakafeed, was conceived in the shadow of a castle, and some of its magic obviously rubbed off. The castle was 14th century Bodiam, a fairytale place of brooding battlements and turrets, surrounded by the water meadows of the Rother Valley. Rakafeed or, rather, its primary arbiter Richard Northen, grew up within shouting distance of the castle, deep in rural East Sussex, and it had its effect: the first album, States, is ethereal and otherworldly, and it’s not much of a stretch to detect a bit of Bodiam in there.

States is an introduction to Rakafeed, a musical project which will evolve into a collective of producers, writers and artists (it already includes Northen, Bjork/Radiohead collaborator Sally Herbert and Elliot King, former longtime guitarist with Skunk Anansie’s Skin).

Rich currently lives on a narrow boat moored on the Thames near Hampton Court Palace using a studio near Eel Pie Island.
