About this album
When Ritchie Blackmore left “Deep Purple” for the final time, he put together a new version of Rainbow in 1994, called “Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow”. This line-up only released one album before Ritchie decided he wanted to pursue different musical styles and formed “Blackmore’s Night” with fiance Candice Night.
Released in the post-grunge mid ’90s it was no surprise that “Stranger in Us All” failed to measure up to the critical and commercial acclaim of previous releases and was not particularly well publicised. Among fans however, it is considered a forgotten gem in the Rainbow discography.
With a style comfortably sitting somewhere between the dungeons and dragons approach of the Ronnie James Dio era and the radio friendly commerciality of the Joe Lynn Turner era, “Stranger in Us All” had a sound dissimilar to any Rainbow of old. The superb vocal flexibility of Doogie White proved once again Blackmore’s knack of finding relatively unknown talent and giving them a vehicle to further success.
Much of the album featured in the live concert sets, and with the set being varied from night to night, live bootleg recordings still remain popular with Blackmore fans.

The problem with this Album is, that for some reason all the songs with odd numbers are awesome and (with the exception of "Still I'm sad") the others are not. Still a very good one overall, though.

I really appreciate the version of Still I'm Sad on this record. If there were an LP-version with Dio and not just an instrumental, the latter would have beaten this one clearly; however, the version from Stranger In Us All rocks very well. Got to admit, the album is seriously not that bad!

damn...he needs to come back to good ol' rock n roll.. i understand he wants to do what he's doing right now but when I listen to albums like this I realize we NEED him back, id die a happy man if he started rainbow back up again (of course Dio wouldn't be available for the reunion but still...) maybe with Joe Lynn Turner or something

Not the best Rainbow album but definitely some of the best leadwork ive ever heard from Ritchie Blackmore who sounds a lot more accomplished on this album.

Good album but not the best Rainbow album that's for sure. That crown goes to Rising or Long Live Rock 'n' Roll. We got pretty nice songs here (Hunting Humans, Ariel, Too Late For Tears etc.) but Blackmore's guitar playing is a bit below his top. The album was made only because he had a deal with the record company for a heavy rock studio LP. At the time he was already into renaissance music and Blackmore's Night first project was being prepared.
