Kate Bush 10 the best
Neil Halstead 7.8 the second best
Railcars 7.4 the most "underground"
Wild Nothing 7.2 the hippest
Storm of Capricorn 7.0 the most unexpected
Gemma Hayes 6.7 the gentlest
Steve Hogarth 6.5 the most ok, I guess
Charlotte Martin 6.5 the piano
Novembre 6.3 the most memorable
Vernian Process – 4.0 the most unnecessary
Anthem In 3.7 the least memorable
Swimmer One 3.4 the cheesiest
The Twilight Singers 3.3 the worst
This song is so good, it's hard to completely ruin, though The Twilight Singers sure did try. It's also one of those songs that's very hard to vary from, so essentially all the covers sound more or less like the original. Storm of Capricorn and Novembre are probably the most interesting since they come out of left field (doom metal and martial industrial).
Still debating whether the Fred Thomas version would be worth tracking down.
