  • I respect Paul, but his song-writing skills is weaker than his technique, no matter how he tries (comparing Gilbert to Kotzen's stuff - from his early 90-s shred-o-fusion to cool solo r'n'b stuff, Richie much more versatile at musical key and still progressing on). But I'm definitely prefer Racer X rather than Mr. Big. Racer X probably the one and only Gilbert's project, where he reaches the limits of his phrasing. At Mr. Big and his solo albums, I can't feel further motion and progress of his guitar playing (same licks, cliches and varies of rhythm patterns). Racer X is his highest level on all fronts. Gilbert is the king of shred-metal. Done.
