Goin' Down South (4:48)

Cover of Too Bad Jim

From Too Bad Jim and 21 other releases

R.L. Burnside is Delta Blues. Some consider him an important artist, others do not, saying there are more influential Delta Blues artists. However, he made a substantial contribution by his rhythmic approach and staying for the most part on one chord. Playing on the ‘one’ chord, is difficult to make and keep the song interesting. In this, many modern Bluesmen were influenced by R.L. Burnside.

I like that this is getting a wider audience into R.L. Burnside, but his original is even more fantastic. The version on "First Recordings" is great, check that out if you like this. Poor Black Mattie is another amazing track. Youtube has got a great 1:50 clip if you search for 'going down south rl burnside'

It says 2:34 but today's stream was more like 4:50(??) and surely very different (more complex & raucous) from what I've heard for the last 12months?? And different from he current preview. Am I wrong or does anyone know what the different versions are?

At one level, there's nothing to this: just one riff, over and over. But its emotional power just grows and grows.
