According to Michael Stipe, the lyrics were inspired by a dream concerning a drug made of light. Electron Blue was the third single released off of Around The Sun. The title would later be name checked on Accelerate’s Sing For The Submarine.

    I love the vocal melody on this. And... well, it had a strong enough impression on Stipe to be namechecked in Sing for the Submarine, so it can't be half bad.
