Eyes Of A Stranger (6:54)

Queensryche must be put into context in the early 80’s; Metal was having a resurgence after the doldrums of the late 70s; Prog Rock had taken a hammering, Zeppelin, Purple and Co. were a recent memory. THese guys burst onto the scene with a vitality that was astounding.

In the back ground Scott Rockenfield (no pun intended surely) was beating the shit out of the skins, the anthemic drums seemed to be fused with Jackson’s bass guitars building a sonic wall of inpenetrable proportions. There seemed to be no room for anything else and yet. … their just seems to be guitars oozing out of every single groove of vinyl (yes remember that). These guys were no nonsense mothers.
And the guitars just keep coming.

Layered on top (like icing on the cake) You had this high pitched melodic voice coming out of a pair of pipes that must have been extra-terestrial (Don Dokken eat your heart out); Don’t get me talking about the lyrics. You have to suspend your imagination the first few times you listen. Enjoy the music, let the meaning seep its way through. It always does eventually.

This is to be enjoyed over time. Like a vintage whiskey (or whatever else tickles your fancy).

All alone now
Except for the memories
Of what we had and what we knew
Everytime I try to leave it behind me
