Tenement Funster (2:46)
From Sheer Heart Attack and 9 other releases
“Tenement Funster” was written by drummer Roger Taylor for the band’s 1974 album “Sheer Heart Attack”.
Taylor sang the lead vocals for the track, as well as all of the backing vocals. The backing track consisted of Taylor’s drums, Freddie Mercury’s piano, John Deacon’s bass and Brian May’s Red Special guitar. It’s a typical Taylor track about youth and rebellion and also includes echo effects with May’s guitar, as in “Brighton Rock” off of the same album. The last couple of guitar notes overlap into “
Flick of the Wrist”.
Dream Theater covered the entire three-song arch of Sheer Heart Attack (“Tenement Funster,” “Flick Of The Wrist” and “Lily Of The Valley”) for their album Black Clouds & Silver Linings and it appears on the Special Edition release.
