About This Track

“One Year of Love” is a song written by bassist John Deacon for the film “Highlander”. Like the other songs written for the film, it appears on Queen’s 1986 album “A Kind Of Magic”.

The album version features Deacon playing Yamaha DX-7 synth, a string orchestra conducted by Lynton Naif and a saxophone played by Steve Gregory. Deacon decided to substitute the guitar components with a saxophone solo after a discussion with Queen’s guitarist, Brian May, who doesn’t appear in the song.

It was released as a single in France and Spain only, and appeared during the bar scene in Highlander.

In 2006, this song was covered by Dutch singer Stevie Ann.

    It's sad to see those criticizing a song, especially the lyrics, just because they lack comprehension of what it entails. Of course it's not classic Queen - it was part of an inspirational soundtrack for the film Highlander. And the subtle fusion of genres, favoring an older sound, is something rather special.
