Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (4:22)

Cover of A Kind Of Magic

From A Kind Of Magic and 6 other releases

“Pain Is So Close to Pleasure” began as a riff idea by Brian May. Then John Deacon and Freddie Mercury turned that into a song, with Deacon playing rhythm guitar. The song has a Motown style (a first for Queen) and was released as a single in 1986, reaching #26 on the Dutch charts. The title also appears as a line in “One Year of Love”. This would be one of the last times Freddie Mercury would sing a Queen song in falsetto.

One of the only songs where Freddie sang in falsetto during the 80's. And that riff is catchy, too.

I also agree with amaroK_usr , My least two favourite Queen songs seem to be back to back on one album.

Bad song for Queen, but Freedie's voice is amazing.

Not one of my favorites. I wonder how this would have sounded had Brian finished composing it, rather than John and Freddie finishing it.

One of the best queen songs! Although it doesn't sound like a queen song. That was my first LP ever and I still love this song more than any other song on A Kind of Magic.
