United Kingdom (2004 – 2009)

November 2004, the first annual UK Music Hall Of Fame induction ceremony takes place. As “Queen” are inducted, surviving active members Brian May and Roger Taylor (without bassist John Deacon who retired from the music business in 1997) play the band’s double A-side hits, “PlayWe Will Rock You” and “PlayWe Are The Champions”, complete with former “Free” and “Bad Company” frontman Paul Rodgers. The reaction is immense and the crowd waits in eager anticipation for the return of the act as they close the show with Free’s classic, “PlayAll Right Now”, with a little help from “The Polyphonic Spree”. Instantly, many music fans across the globe secretly hope for a long awaited return of rock’s reagal performers after an 18-year abstinence from the touring circuit.

By January of 2005, Roger Taylor admitted to German television that the new band would be touring Europe in Spring and Summer of that year, under the name of “Queen + Paul Rodgers”. The full line up included original “Queen” members May (guitar, vocals) and Taylor (drums, vocals) as well as former “The Pretenders” and “Brian May Band” member Jamie Moses (guitar, vocals), former “Blue Oyster Cult” man Danny Miranda (bass, vocals), Queen’s 1986 tour keyboard player Spike Edney (keyboards, vocals) and Paul Rodgers (vocals, occasional guitar). Over the course of 2005, the band played in all major European countries as well as the Aruba Festival, dates in Japan and two shows in the U.S.A. The band embarked upon a large scale tour of Northern America during Spring 2006.

Им никогда не стать такой легендой, какой была группа QUEEN. Просто решили срубить денег. Группа прекратила своё существование после смерти Меркьюри. Продолжать не имело смысла. Заменить Фредди невозможно.

I'm sorry, but Brian May and Roger Taylor did not make up the entire band. They only made up half. I think it's shitty to use the name Queen when the half of the band isn't there anymore. While I love both Brian and Roger as musicians, I just cannot get into this "Queen" + Paul Rogers stuff.

:') Paul a one-hit-wonder. Free is considered to be one of the greatest bluesrock bands of their time. Shame they split before they really had their definitive breakthrough. But calling them or Paul a one-hit-wonder is not very respectful for what they've achieved.

Malleenka: Queen wasn't just about Freddie. Brian , Roger and John wrote some of Queen's most popular songs (Keep Yourself Alive, Fat Bottomed Girls, We Will Rock You, Who Wants To Live Forever, and Save Me came from Brian; Radio Ga Ga and These Are The Days Of Our Lives are from Taylor; Another One Bites The Dust, Spread Your Wings, You're My Best Friend, and I Want To Break Free are from Deacon.) The success of a band is the sum of it's parts, and all four members of Queen proved themselves as song-writers, not to mention Taylor and May both sang lead on various Queen songs. (For example, May sang '39 and Long Away, among others, and two of Roger's lead vocal turns were on Tenement Funster and I'm In Love With My Car.) Are those any less Queen songs, than a song that Freddie wrote and sang lead on? Brian's guitar sound was a crucial part of the "Queen sound" - just listen to his solo work as a testament to that.

Well, yes, they are, but to be honest, that special Queen spell was just because of Freddie's voice and Freddie's songs. And I still think the name 'Queen' is Brian, Freddie, Roger and John, not two of them. Anyway, Q+PR play nice music, but it;s not so unique and magic. ;)

They didn't. They used "Queen AND Paul Rodgers"...a collaborative name. And are you seriously suggesting that Brian, Roger (and John) are not legends? Queen was more than just Freddie, and I hate it when 'fans' are so shallow to suggest that the band consisted of one person and a backing group. It's kinda disrespectful. Now seriously guys, come on...

You know, it's hard to continue a legendary band without a legend. I don't care about what Brian and Roger do, but they shouldn't use the name 'Queen'.

Right on! QPR was a very good band on it's own, particulairy last year during their South American gigs. Pitty that most Queen fans didn't gave them a change, only because Freddie isn't around anymore.
