Jah Wobble (2009): “At the time I was a bit of a socialist.” “I'd just thought it to be good to call it 'Socialist' [...] I hated Thatcher, I hated everything Reagan stood for to be quite honest, you know, and at that time I just wanted that old-style, left-wing socialism.”

This stuff was never supposed to sound finished - it makes you wanna go out and do something yourself....that's the whole idea. I find it quite inspirational.

PiL supposedly had dreams of breaking big--commercial success, wide cultural impact, etc.--and tracks like this kinda make it sound like they could've done it. It's sorta pop-oriented; it's danceable. I can see the kids bopping about on the dance floor to this. So why leave it so skeletal? Fill out the track. Put something around the motorik beat, and make your grab for the brass ring. Bring the synths up in the mix, add a vocal track of some sort. Voila, you've got a hit. Well, maybe you would. You can't really predict such things, I know. But you'd at least have something that somebody would think could be a hit. It at least proves a point, I guess. They could make something catchy and pleasant if they'd wanted to, but they wanted the audience to come to them. Sadly, that was expecting too much.
