Careering (4:35)

Cover of Metal Box

From Metal Box and 9 other releases

‘When we did “Careering,” we were in London. When you went to the toilet, you went downstairs and there was this noise from a machine like nrrrrrrrrr, like you hear on the song. It was really interesting down there and we’d hang out there. It was just a comfortable place. That noise was always there. I had to see if I could make the noise on the synth- I pretty much go it off. I dropped something on the key to keep it going. I went off somewhere and when I came back into the studio, they took the noise off the key quickly and that was the snare sound. That was going along with the noise sound.’

Interview with Keith Levene, May 2001.

BASS! THE FINAL FRONTIER...now add THAT guitar (P.I.L., like the Banshees, seem to have had the best players of that instrument fitting their own particular stylish-fuck off-style...bewitching!) Throw in a smoke cauldron full of effects-and don't mention L.S.P., the only similarity-apart from the genius-is the DIFFERERENCE; Lydon's Stuka-over-Stalingrad vox in the '"this'll never gel" mix and and you'll end up babbling like this. Lydon, you fucking old swine, OH MY GOD I'VE BURST MY BRAIN...
