Biography
Psalters play an underground experimental world music style borrowing influences from around the world; Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and even old United States slave spirituals from the US are influences. Earlier recordings saw them experimenting with sample based tracks and musique concrète. They have had a revolving door policy with players, having had some 100 musicians pass through the project since its inception. Psalters are Christian in their outlook but have had Jewish and Muslim players in their lineup over the course of their history. Less about being a band and more about an identity as a transient nomadic group of players, they are influenced by the temple musicians of Ancient Israel whose sole purpose was to sing to the glory of God.
