• Protest The Hero - Fortress

Protest the Hero first came to my attention in Guitar Hero. Yes, I know. Thats horrible. But you have to get exposure somewhere right? It was "Bury the Hatchet." That song is still epic in my book, but their full length "Kezia" was even more epic than epic...if that can happen. So obviously, with their follow up to that record coming out next week, I was in high anticipation to hearing what these 5 crazy Canadians would come up with next.

The album resembles "Kezia" in numerous ways: Rody Walker's vocals are piercing in the high range, Millar and Hoskin's guitars thread up and down the fret board constantly, comprised with the unusual time signature changes and strange fill beats. However, with that being said, this is no remake of "Kezia."

"Fortress" is a lot more mature. You can tell right away from the first song, "Bloodmeat." Towards the end of the song, it branches out of its metalcore roots into a very melodic and powerful chorus. …
  • Warped Tour '07

Oh, Warped Tour, simultaneously the most intense & most frustrating concert experience of my young life.

So bear with me while I lay the literary smack-down on Van's Warped Tour (don't worry, our hero redeems himself in the end). First off, the line. Yes, we're off to a bad start. It was long & hot & sweaty & frustratingly slow, to the point where some poor chap nearly passed out from exhaustion & was hauled to the front of the line (with some twelve friends in tow... I think he was faking it). Anyways, once we're in a half-hour after the gates open (& we were there an hour early), everything seems cool. No less than eight stages set-up, tons of merch tents... & one food tent. One. Food. Tent. For an event hosting thousands upon thousands of young men and women (and a few conspicuously out-of-place older ones), we have maybe a dozen people serving food. And oh no, that's not even where the trouble begins.

  • The Top Songs of 2006

Howdy. If you liked the album list from 4 days ago... this should be up your alley.

This will be nowhere as long as that list though, cause that would pretty much take days to figure out, honestly. The worst part about this is that i'm bound for forget probably a dozen songs... oh well.

And i'll quote myself from last year... The other problem is that i could basically fill up the list with my favorite albums from this year, but that would be silly so i tried to spread it out. That actually eliminatates accuracy somewhat. So here you go.

Here's a list of our "honourable mentions" in no particular order:
    Genghis Tron - Chapels
Set Your Goals - An Old Book Misread
Bury Your Dead - Let Down Your Hair
Remembering Never - Gangsta Rap & Peppermint Schnapps
    Intronaut - Gleamer
After the Burial - Fingers Like Daggers
    Verse - Lost
Lye By Mistake - Dream As I May, I Feel It, and It's So Wrong
Dead To Fall - All My Heroes Have Failed Me
