“I Wanna Be Your Lover” is a first single by Prince from his second album Prince. It was his first successful single, gaining radio airplay and chart success: the song scored two weeks at No. 1 on the R&B singles chart during December 1979, and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1980.

The B-side of the track was from his previous album, For You, “My Love Is Forever”, in the U.S. In the UK, the B-side was “Just As Long As We’re Together”, also from For You. This was Prince’s debut single in the UK. It charted together with “Sexy Dancer” on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it reached No. 2.
