Time Flies (11:42)

Cover of The Incident

From The Incident and 6 other releases

This epic eleven and a half minute number is a track from British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree’s tenth studio album, The Incident. It is part of a 55-minute song cycle, which occupies the whole of the album’s first disc.

Wilson described this song as “sentimental” and the “centerpiece” of the album. An edited version was released as a single. In this song he reflects on his mortality and celebrates 1967, which was not only a milestone 12 months for rock music, but also the year he was born.

I'm listening to this album while writing. This song came on just as I edited this sentence: "Given enough time, everything can change."

Group maintains its sound; creating music is about one key for all the albums. It should be noted that the team is trying to squeeze out all the creative juices, the entire potential. The team is still very, very recognizable. However, looking at the membership does not have to wonder.

I somewhat appropriately now associate this song with someone who is no longer alive. I once posted this on Facebook, and the only attention that post got was from my aunt... who commented with "go to bed" (it was late/early). In retrospect I appreciate it.

The main riff is from "Dogs", the heavier section is from "Sheep", the lyrical theme is from "Time". It's all Pink Floyd worship.

It's either an homage or a rip-off depending on how you look at it. Either way, it's pretty impressive how they managed to get three different Pink Floyd songs in one song.
