About This Track

This epic eleven and a half minute number is a track from British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree’s tenth studio album, The Incident. It is part of a 55-minute song cycle, which occupies the whole of the album’s first disc.

Wilson described this song as “sentimental” and the “centerpiece” of the album. An edited version was released as a single. In this song he reflects on his mortality and celebrates 1967, which was not only a milestone 12 months for rock music, but also the year he was born.

Time Flies cant sound like dream theater because dream theater doesnt sound epic in any circumstances.

Perhaps my favorite song of all time, followed by Shevanel cut a Flip by Between the Buried and Me and Jane Doe by Converge.

That interlude has a brilliant solo and I feel its length is just right.

I used to dislike the length of the interlude as well but I know feel it is an integral part of the song and that the radio edit or any other variation of it ruins the ebb and flow of the song.

Video still leaves a lot to be desired, unfortunately.

Great, but the interlude is unnecessarily long.

Love the hell out of this song, but I dislike the first transition to guitar wankery. I think that final line, the way it's performed, should've somehow predicted the up-coming solo. The delivery of "is still the way I see you now" makes it sound like the following section is going to get calmer, like the part AFTER that solo. It should've been more climatic. Sung louder, perhaps, not so calm.
