Biography

Montreal, Canada (2002 – present)

Pony Up! is an indie pop band from Montreal, Canada. They formed on New Year’s Eve 2002 and, upon developing a relationship with singer Ben Lee, released their debut, self-titled EP in 2005 on his Ten Fingers label.

The original lineup was Lisa J. Smith, Lindsay Wills, Laura Wills, Sarah Moundroukas, and Camilla Wynne Ingr. Ingr has since left and is now in the group Sunset Rubdown.

Make Love to the Judges with Your Eyes is the first full-length from Pony Up!, released in April 2006. To promote their debut, the band toured Australia extensively in the summer of 2006, where their single “The Truth About Cats and Dogs (Is That They Die)” would later be voted #47 on the world’s largest music poll, Triple J’s Hottest 100. A second full length album, titled Stay Gold, was released in May 2009

Pony Up has recently supported The Mountain Goats on tour. Lisa Smith and Laura Wills joined the touring lineup of The Dears in September 2008.

I just listened to "Shut up and Kiss Me". After seeing their band picture here, I wish they'd tell that to me. They're all gorgeous women. Did that sound creepy/chauvinistic? I meant that in the most complimenting way possible.

@squids_music - No. I did actually mean the song with the lyrics I mentioned, apparently entitled 'Wet'. Haha. I think I'd know their most popular song. But you should see them play this song. "You're on stage crying and you got me wet; you're on stage bleeding and you got me wet". Lovely.

@MsLaris - I think you're thinking of The Truth About Cats And Dogs (Is That They Die) - the opening lines are: "see how close I can get / to keep myself from getting wet"

Did they ever release that song with the lyric "You got me wet"? I saw this live, twice and died inside a little more each time. Pretty rad song.

you're right about the album cover...but i'm pretty sure i have a few tour posters and things from after its release with "!" on. who knows. i just assumed they only dropped it in the last few months for "stay gold." i'm all for merging i guess. let's just be thankful they're not called ¡Forward, Russia!

That's not true! On the cover art for "Make Love to the Judges..." it says Pony Up as well. The "!" only appeared on the EP and that's because it was the EP title. Well, of course you can't convert all your old scrobbles to Pony Up w/o "!" but you can vote for it so auto-correction redirects them as soon as "Pony Up" has more votes than "Pony Up!". Apart from that in the near future both profiles will be merged and that should be under the correct name, wouldn't you agree?
