While music fans are going through line-ups, posting predictions and purchasing tickets, the new season of music festivals is slowly getting started. The inaugural Grazzhopper Festival kicked off in Geelong on a sunny Saturday and promised a line-up full of great Australian acts such as Grinspoon, Faker, Bluejuice and Operator Please and the only Victorian appearances of international artists Xzibit and The Rapture, and thanks to the decent weather and plenty of space to spread out, many took in a good day of live music.
The festival was held on the infield of Corio’s Beckley Park Trotting & Greyhound Track and provided an easy to navigate layout. The show was officially split between three stages: the indie stage, a stage that was held in a tent not much bigger than the festival’s stall holders had located closest to the entrance; the main stage, slightly bigger than a side stage at the Big Day Out with plenty of space to sit down and watch the festivities; and the big top tent…

28 Dec 2006, 10:28 by eidesThe line up for this event looked massive. Containing a host of acts I'd been dying to see, as well as my Espy favourites Low Budget. So it was with expectations that I ventured down to St Kilda's Esplanade Hotel after a long day at The Ashes.
Low Budget - without knowing the order of who was playing when we decided to get to the event fairly early on to avoid missing out on anyone special. It was a wise move with Low Budget playing in the early bird 6pm time slot. Surely by next year's event they will have earnt a much later time.
They were there clearly to get the party started and warm the crowd up a little. In true Low Budget style they didn't disappoint, playing tracks from their album Magnasound as well as a few tracks off their mixtape.
Rigorous - I've never seen so many people trying to fit on such a small stage as the Rigorous crew. In a very Wu Tang-esque way they took turns of laying down some rhymes over a record (or perhaps a CD) containing each of their tracks. …
8 Aug 2006, 00:49 by dewboyI got this the other day and I'm very happy with it. It made me realise I haven't listenned to the latest
The Herd album that much as most of those songs sound completley new to me. One of the downfalls of buying vinyl, I just don't listen to the record as much.
Anyway, I think they give all the songs killer Elefant Traks treatment. The other non elefant artists that they bring in are all excellent too. Standouts for me are Combat Wombat "Corruption Dub" remixed by Chasm and Hermitude song "Nighfalls Messenger" that Plutonic Lab remix. And of course the "I Was Only 19" original cover.
One confusing thing - the Tunng remix of "I Was Only 19". I'm a big fan of Tunng, but it seemed strange bringing in a UK artist to remix a track which has become such a part of Australian folklore. The treatment is exactly what you would expect of Tunng as well - pretty mashed up. I'm just suprised because Urthboy seemed so precious about this cover and determined to maintain it's cultural roots.
