Biography

(1997 – present)

Primarily known for their ‘Landscape Music’ style, Placement are a duo from England who make a range of music stretching from geographically based impressionistic pieces to much more focused and often intimately melodic studies. The pair use hardware electronica with both tape and digital recorders, plus turntables, found-sound, field recordings and other electric and non-electric instruments. The music is pre-planned, but often with improvised elements - so that live instruments and preparations are frequently recorded together in real time.

Things:
Exploring and recording the landscape. Its expression in painting, film, photography, literature, sculpture and music. Also cartography, land art, geology and climate. Our relationship with place. Far flung radio reports, the pioneering spirit, long distance cycle rides, back garden astronomy, natural and synthetic noise, civil and motive engineering, craft and design.

Discography:
The group has released five albums since forming in 1997: ‘Our Man In High Places’ (Lime Green Yellow 2000), ‘Marine Africa’ (Node Records 2009 / Lime Green Yellow 2012), ‘Collected Locations’ (Lime Green Yellow 2011), ‘Geometry In Distant Agriculture’ with Adriva (Observatoire 2011) and ‘Pieces From A Life’ (Lime Green Yellow 2013)

Note: There are at least two Placements. With another (from Maryland In the United States) producing darker experimental music.
