About this album

Released: 23 Sep 1991 15 tracks (38:49)
Trompe le Monde is the Pixies’ fourth and final full-length studio album, released on September 23, 1991 through the 4AD record label. (It was released simultaneously in the USA on 4AD/Elektra, although the 2004 USA CD re-issue is solely on 4AD.) After the surf-pop of Bossanova, the album saw a return to the abrasive sound of the band’s early albums, even incorporating two songs, “Subbacultcha” and “Distance Equals Rate Times Time”, pre-dating their debut.

Never loved this album but been practising 3 songs for a night in London where the bands cover songs from albums released 20 years ago and it's finally clicked... even if the gig sucks I'm happy :D

You can hear 30 second clips of the different versions of 'Palace of the Brine' and 'Bird Dream...' as well as a clip of 'Brackish Boy' on the 'Definitive Pixies' bootleg, but as far as I know that's the only way you can hear any of the fabled Johnny Malta bootleg. It's a shame because the 30 second clip of Brackish Boy sounds amazing. Plus Kim's vocals are way, way more noticable in the clips of 'Bird Dream' and 'Palace of the Brine'.

A super rare bootleg of the sessions for this album is known to exist that includes Pixies versions of 'Brackish Boy' and 'Surf Epic' which later became early Frank Black songs. Only one copy was ever known to exist and it was owned by a guy call J. Malta who now claims to have lost it.
