This song is one of my favorite opening tracks and I always wondered about the origins of it.

This song was composed in 1989 by the mastering engineer Steve Hoffman and producer Charles "Frosty" Horton, and they recorded it as "The Surftones" for the compilation album "Surf Legends (and Rumours) 1961-1964". Black Francis heard that song and asked them for a cover version.

This has always reminded me of hot, moist summers when all you can do is either just lie down or maybe swim in a hot lake.

The only Pixies' track I don't like. Take it off and you'll get "Rock Music" as a much better opening.

I was just about to say that it's not hard at all to imagine it being in a Sergio Leone spaghetti western, but I see that someone sort of beat me to the draw. It's got that great surf rock sound that Morricone would be down with.

Probably because the Pixies interpretation of this song was heavily inspired by Ennio Morricone.

Every time I hear this I can't help but think of someone riding a horse through the desert shooting at something.
