Fuck with all that, we've got to get on with these

[Continued from below] However, I do believe that people weren't expecting it to be so heavy. Although The Wall was also a high concept album, it had hooks. It had songs like 'run like hell', 'another brick in the wall pt. 2' and 'young lust' that provided some stylistic levity. The Final Cut is ALL atmosphere, ALL about the lyrics and ALL about the slow, deliberate pace. I still enjoy the album quite a bit, simply because that atmosphere is so effective and the lyrics are fantastic and biting, but Waters needed Gilmour to provide that balance, and he didn't have him on this album.

"People dislike it, because sound-wise, it's such a huge step back. Just when people were getting used to the long compositions and the amazing soundscapes of the previous albums, suddenly you get this traditional kind of rock record. It's just wasn't what people were expecting or hoping for. " I'm sorry, but are your ears working? This album is the farthest you can get from being a traditional rock record while still being called rock music. Also, this album is extremely similar in style to The Wall: high concept, shorter songs, heavy on atmosphere. It's a perfectly logical progression from the wall, and I have a hard time believing that people expected anything else, stylistically. [Continued]

I don't like this song because it simply doesn't fit in with the rest of the Final Cut. In fact, I maintain it's the only thing that keeps the Final Cut from being a perfect album.
