Green Is the Colour (2:55)
From More and 64 other releases
“Green Is the Colour” is a track on Pink Floyd’s 1969 Soundtrack from the Film More. It is a gentle acoustic ballad sung by David Gilmour.
In The Man and the Journey suite, it was retitled “The Beginning” in “The Journey” half of the show. It was played as a medley with “Beset by the Creatures of the Deep”, which was a retitling of “Careful with That Axe, Eugene”. There is a tin whistle or pennywhistle on the song, but it is not known who plays it. Some sources say that it is Nick Mason’s wife Lindy.
There are two live arrangements of the song both of which are performed as a full electric band piece. In one Richard Wright builds a calm sheen of warbling organ sound throughout which creates a more natural segue into the next track which would be Careful With That Axe Eugene. In the other version Wright plays a piano part which gives the song a much different feel. In both versions David Gilmour sings a scat vocal over his guitar solo during the outro.

Heavy hung the canopy of blue
Shade my eyes and I can see you
White is the light that shines through the dress that you wore
She lay in the shadow of the wave
