Nocturne (11:38)

Cover of Electroacoustic music 1995-2004

From Electroacoustic music 1995-2004

Completed 1995. The music alternates between regions defined by two categories of source material: the composer’s cats, and the extraneous noises left over from an instrumental recording sesison.

Composer’s programme note:

The initial impetus for this piece was very simple: waking in the middle of the night to hear my cats purring loudly beside me, perceiving them in a half-woken state as both intimate reality and surreal abstraction. Over this image, the final realisation introduced purer sonic relationships, as the real and imaginary spaces, and the domains of ‘real’ sound and ‘music’, are brought together.
