This album was a seminal inspiration for Lydon, but I certainly wouldn't call punk an atrocity, it has its moments like all genres. As for this song, probably my favorite on the album, only Nobody's Business even comes close and entirely different reasons, so it's difficult to compare.

Lovely. It's easy to forget sometimes what a great singer (as opposed to vocalist) PH can be. Don't know about Ricky Nadir being directly responsible for the 'atrocity' that was punk rock, I for one thought those first three Pistols singles were essential and they sure inspired a lot of other people to start something (along with the Clash, Damned, Ramones etc) OK so there was a lot of crap there but isn't it the same with any musical genre?

sorry but those who quote that, know little of what came before, really punk was born of urban desperation safety pins and some more, not romantic lyricism and expression ,sorry, was not their greatast moment

'Nadir' was the record that inspired John Lydon to commit the atrocity of 'punk rock' upon the world....nice one Pete...haha..

Been alone so long that I've forgotten what to do: how to make the whole thing right and how to help if she's uptight and when to run and when to fight... how to make her stay the night-- that's if I ever knew.

I'd say that Peter is not so much underrated by just unknown - I guess most people who know him simply think he's the best in putting music & words together. But the words of this song are not by Peter - they lyrics are written by Chris Judge Smith.
