Definitely, the worst album to me from PY is the last one. I don't really care about the producer, the place or the date of recording... I don't like it. I love his music, specially the two first albums, but this one is a big disappointment. Go back to your way, Pete.
"Yorn’s celebrated 2001 debut seemed at the time like the unveiling of one of folk rock’s gifted new torch-bearers. Instead, nine years and now four albums later, the New Jersey singer/songwriter has depreciated into nothing more than indistinguishable adult contemporary." http://www.bingelistening.com/reviews/pete-yorn-pete-yorn/
New album sucks..... http://music-mix.ew.com/2010/09/23/pete-yorn-new-album-stream/
I love Pete Yorn, but he even managed to ruin one of his classic songs on the new album. Very disappointing this will be the first Pete album I wont buy. bleh
@ SamsHairyBeard: I know Frank Black is producing this album, which is obvious. For example the opening howling of Precious Stone sounds just like the opening of " Where is my mind" by the Pixies and its overdone and obvious. Now listen to the opening of "pass me by" sounds a bit more soft and delicate without Frank Black over doing its lo-fi/raw/rock edge. Im not saying I dont like it yet, but I have my accusations that maybe Frank Black hears it a little bit differently than how i like it
@Badfish33: Frank Black of Pixies is producing the new album, so I don't think you can really blame him for only wanting to turn out "crap". I don't think Pete's ever produced his own albums. Apparently this one's going to be much more lo-fi/raw/rockin' than his previous albums, which is what Pete intended. I don't like Velcro Shoes either, but give the album a chance, Precious Stone is fantastic.
hmmmm Velcro shoes is the only song ive ever heard by pete yorn that i dislike. I am thinking its because he's not producing this one and record producers like to make music sound like crap to make the majority to like it. and people with an ear for music know that the majority listen to crap..
