About this album

‘Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor’ is the third studio album by the French black metal band Peste Noire. Although the poetic lyrics and medieval atmospheres are still easily recognizable PN characteristics, this album notes a considerable change in style: Ballade contains a lot of hardrock riffs and features more experimentation, while the lyrics have a more prominent nationalist character.

In contrary to the previous two albums, Ballade was mostly recorded with frontman Famine’s own equipment, rather than in a studio. For this release, Famine replaced his former bandmembers (Neige, Winterhalter, Indria), with three new ones (Andy Julia from Nuit Noire, Audrey Sylvain from Amesoeurs, and a bassplayer called Ragondin).

The album comes in a green digipack and contains no copyrights. Lyrics have been taken from such French poets as François de Villon and Paul Verlaine, as well as traditional (military) hymns and material written by Famine himself. Famine wrote all of this album’s music, except for the musical interludes ‘Concerto pour clouportes’, Vespre, and ‘Requiem pour Nioka’, which were written and performed by Audrey Sylvain.
