Biography

There are multiple artists named Perfume:

1) Perfume is a three-girl / group from Hiroshima, Japan who debuted locally in 2001 and nationally in 2005. In 2001, three 11-12 year old girls from an Artist School formed a group together in their hometown of Hiroshima primarily consisting of Yuka Kashino (Kashiyuka), Ayaka Nishiwaki (A-Chan) and Yūka Kawashima (“Kawayuka”). Because all three members had the Japanese character (香) for fragrance in their names, they named the group Perfume. Kawayuka soon left the group to pursue her studies and Ayano Omoto (“Nocchi”) took her place, invited by A-Chan. In 2002, they released two limited edition singles only in Hiroshima, called “OMAJINAI★ペロリ” and “彼氏募集中”. All three members moved to Tokyo in 2003 and became produced by 中田ヤスタカ. Between the years of 2003 and 2004, they produced “スウィートドーナッツ”, “モノクロームエフェクト”, and “ビタミンドロップ” under the indie label Bee-Hive Records. During that time, they performed to a one-man live three times. Because the girls were so energetic, fans acquired an appreciation for them.

It wasn’t until 2007 that Perfume gained attention, when their single “ポリリズム(Polyrhythm)” became the theme song for a nationwide recycling campaign. The day of its release, it hit number #4 on the Oricon charts and #7 for the weekly ranking, making this the first time Perfume reached the top 10. Almost overnight the group became a success, and to date they have sold nearly 60,000 copies of “ポリリズム”.

Ijiwaru na Hello and Hold Your Hand are plausible, because they both have full choreography (and both were performed at Gurun Gurun and WT3), but iirc Display didn't have full choreography at Gurun Gurun (because of all the stage relocating), and who knows with Koi wa Zenkei Shisei. Though, if this is the last single before an album, then Toumei Ningen should be on it, if Glitter and Handy Man are any indication. Who knows though, hah.

v hey, how do you feel about the direction nakata took perfume's music this era

It's practically impossible to leave an A-side track off an album. Sweet Refrain, Cling Cling, Relax, and PMU are all 100% going to be on the album for this era -- the only gray area is the B-sides, since Nakata likes to use them to pad out the tracklist since he's lazy. I really don't know what he'll leave out since everything received choreography this era (Hurly Burly likely didn't make it to LEVEL3 because MIKIKO never choreographed the full song...just the TV cut). I can see DISPLAY making it, HYH for sure, InH + KwZ + Toumei Ningen I'm unsure about.

edge part 2 pls [2] DISPLAY was such a disappointment from what we got in the Panasonic CM. I hate the obnoxiously long intro trend Perfume've had lately with stuff like 1mm, Sweet Refrain and now Display.

@snsdguy: STORY is way too epic to be just an intro, you can tell how Nakata put his effort into it imo, and yeah I hope DISPLAY gets an album mix too, a cool one possibly, edge part. 2 pls

@BipolarSthendal: Story will probably be the intro of the next album like how Enter the Sphere was the background music of the Perfume-Global site that launched in 2012. I hope Display gets an album mix.

@flyingwill: Ikr? Like, I've been a Perfume's fan since 2009, they're one of my favorites groups ever since they're so unique, but it's not like I love with ALL their songs, imo Pick Me Up is extremely good, and I consider it their best song since Fushizen Na Girl. I don't really get why people are complaining about it honestly, it's objectively a great song and its PV looks nice, it's like if you guys are new to this group sometimes, like... what were you expecting? It's their style, and you know it is since their major debut, so what's the problem?

@mrZENO: Welcome to the wonderful world of Perfume's last.fm shoutbox ,where there's no middle ground between rabid fanboys who even dare to like Mirai no Museum, and blasé people who haven't enjoyed a Perfume since God knows when but still feel the need to regularly dump their shit here hoping the aforementioned rabid fanboys will realize how wrong they are.

    Toumei Ningen is the b-side.

Pick Me Up is great, although I agree that it's a little underwhelming to realize that the wonderful "solo" spots are all packed at the beginning of the song. And it's not a B-side btw, it's a double single.
