  • Live Show: Zion I - April 2, 2010

    4 Apr 2010, 05:15 by Syn_Zero

    Fri 2 Apr – Zion I
    ---

It felt like forever since I'd been to a show, so last night was definitely a refreshing change of pace for me, especially considering I'm not exactly a fan of Zion I -- or at least, I wasn't before last night. Like with the Del show back in November, I happened to catch an e-mail post advertising the show, told my friend Johnny, and from there it turned into a nice group outing.

Honestly, I love The Independent. Being a 21+ venue, they seem way more laid back than even the Great American Music Hall. No frisking or bag checking, you can go in and out as much as you want, and they don't seem to care that practically everyone inside pulls out a blunt or cigar. The only thing that sucks is the parking; with only two cars it took us about an hour to find parking around the neighborhood. Seriously, I think one of the nearby buildings needs to go in order to make room for a parking garage or something. There are enough bars and restaurants around Divisadero to warrant it.
  • 20 albums you should be listening to if you aren't already =)

Abstract Rude, Prevail & Moka Only - Code Name: Scorpion

This album is fun and light and these three dudes all have great voices. They have a good sense of humor and unique flows. It's a good album to listen to when you are in a laid-back kind of mood.

Afro Classics - The Classic EP

Okay technically this not an album it's an EP but it still makes the list. And you know why? Because people are zzzzzzz-in on this EP for real! This shit is high quality and needs to be heard by the world.

Asheru & Blue Black - Soon Come

Such great jazzy beats. This album is great for creating a good vibe for a lil get together and it's dope music to dance to. Love these guys.

    C-Rayz Walz - Ravipops

C-Rayz Walz deserves sooooo much more respect than he gets. This dude is an amazing lyricist and has such a chill delivery. He has a lot of good offerings but I think Ravipops is his best.

    CMA - All Over

Two of my favorite members of the Living Legends (The Grouch & Luckyiam) make for a dope lil duo. …

  • Complaints about My Top 50 Artists

    18 Feb 2008, 20:11 by DopeRican

i saw someone else doing this, and i decided it looked fun enough, so what i'm gonna do is go through my top 50 artists and say what bugs me about them.

    1. Z-Ro

I love how heart felt his music is, but at times its just too damn depressing, also he really isn't lyrical at all. but check him out he's mad dope, peep my z-ro journal for evidence.

    2. Joe Budden

He keeps people waiting too long for albums, he's very arrogant aswell, and his voice gets boring after awhile

    3. Nas

hard to find negative shit about mr. escobar...but he sounds HORRIBLE when he tries to dumb down his music, keep it Illmatic, Stillmatic, Lost tapes at ALL times nas...

    4. Cormega

again, real hard to find negative shit about mega...but his voice is a tad bit annoying at times, also, his style is so different than most, that he sounds, just wrong, on most of his guest appearences

    5. Ras Kass

Love his style, but i'm a bit irritated that he's gone the mainstream path of late... …

  • Recommend a hip hop artist!

    7 May 2007, 02:02 by bazii

Hey there, I've been here at last.fm for a while, a total of like two years and running into hip hop artists is so much more easier to do then before I ran into this site.

I have a pretty big library, but if there is a hiphopper you know of that I don't have, or you don't think I have, please share!

Specifying what albums/tracks that you liked by that artist would be great but please if you don't want to do that you don't have to. I appreciate you sharing the artist already!

Thanks alot guys, I will edit this journal and show my progress with the artists you guys have shared with me.

That way, this journal might show up on some artists page, some people see this and I'm not the only one benefiting from it! :)

    Digable Planets
    Brotha Lynch Hung
    Brokin English Klik
Leaders of the New School - T.I.M.E. (1993)
    Showbiz & A.G. - Runaway Slave (1992)
Dizzee Rascal - Boy in da Corner (2003)
Dr. Dooom - First Come, First Served (1999)
  • Song Of The Moment #2, Let It Roll

    13 Nov 2006, 20:41 by Levi0522

Well recently I've been trying out different artists now that I got high speed internet lol. I've been hearing about a lot of underrated groups and artists that are underground, so thats mainly what I've been checking out. While I was listening to my recommendation radio I came across Hieroglyphics - Miles To The Sun which was an awesome song.

So I went to check out some more of their stuff and came across this song Let It Roll. Their lyrics in this song are amazing, Pep Love and Tajai have really nice skills. Out of about 10-12 songs I've listened to by Hieroglyphics this is probably my favorite, next to Cab Fare (I love the sample of the taxi theme song on that one).

Anyways if anyone has any recommendations on some tracks by Hieroglyphics or some artists with a similar sound to them please hit me up. I'm really lovin their stuff. Btw I put a link if anyone wants to check it out, if anyone has problems with downloading it I can upload somewhere else.

  • diss hop - volume 1

    4 Mar 2006, 14:44 by dystemper

aight. i got back from work buzzed on redbull vodkas and jagerbombs, so it's safe to say that i haven't slept all night and was pretty amped, and the only thing i could think of doing was putting a new mixtape together. it's Apathy and Celph Titled heavy... only because those two cats write some of the sharpest fucking rhymes that i've heard in a long time. the theme should be obvious. some tracks are stronger than others... but i wanted as much variety as possible. i know i missed out on a lot of tracks, but eh. they can come in on compilation 2. :)

you really need to check out the White Stripes sample that Apathy uses on track 1 off disc 1... one of the dopest hip hop tracks i've ever heard.

    Disc 1 -

    1. Apathy - It Takes a Seven Nation Army to Hold Us Back (feat. Emilio Lopez) (3:06)
    2. Felt - Your Mans and Them (3:28)
    3. Sweatshop Union - Don't Mind Us (3:36)
    4. Blueprint - Big Girls Need Love Too (4:02)
    5. Celph Titled - Captivate Deactivate (feat. Demigodz) (3:16)
    6. Immortal Technique - Beef and Broccoli (2:05)
