The meaning of this song is pretty obvious, it's about a musician who wishes for a quiet, peaceful life, but despite efforts to achieve this, can't settle down and tear away from the rock n' roll lifestyle. Most Pavement songs don't have much meaning but out of all the albums they released, Crooked Rain and Brighten the corners are the two with an overall theme. On Rain, the theme appears to be about a desire to change in the face of stardom, and on Brighten the Corners, the album is centered around a fear of growing old.
