• Nice rebound after Brighten the Corners, which to my ears isn't a very good album. On the other hand, this sounds like -- and in many ways is -- essentially a Malkmus solo record. It also doesn't sound like anyone is having any fun recording it, which from what I've read no one was. Still, the songwriting is good and that's always been the draw of this band.
• I've given this album a few listens and it doesn't seem to click with me besides Spit on a Stranger and Carrot Rope. Maybe I should give it another listen someday.
• Think this might be my all time fave from them.
• Someday it will be cooler to like this album more than wowee zowee
• Gosh almighty, listening to this album for the first time in I don't know how long, Platform Blues=rad!!!!!! S+E, C Rain, WZ and TT=1st place, BTC not far behind, and Westing has my all time fav Pave track in Debris Slide on it, love em!!
• i used to like pavement but now i love them
• i can definitely see an argument for this being their best
• i dont really understand why this album gets so much flack. its at least on par with wowee zowee
• Not only my favourite Pavement record but also one of my favourites of all time. People criticize Godrich's production but to me everything sounds so warm and full. Plus the songwriting is pretty stellar all around, some of the most lingering and funny lines Malkmus ever sung feature here. Can't wait for the reissue package so everyone remembers how great this thing is but by the look of things that might take a while (especially since they seem to have exhausted most of the non-album material from the late 90s in the Nicene Creedence package of Brighten the Corners). In summary, I fucking love this shit.
• Delightful.
