Took me a while to get into this album, but when I hear it I think of driving through Toronto with an ex-girlfriend and then the time in the hotel room afterwards...

I'd not heard this for over 15 years (it's stuck on vinyl). Just brilliant, I'd forgotten how good it was.

Alternate listing: According to an article published in Stereophile magazine, Simon's original track sequence was changed when "the boys in Warners' front office insisted the album's lead single, 'The Obvious Child' be given pride of place." To hear Simon's preferred track order, the current release would have to be re-sequenced as 3-6-4-7-8-1-2-9-5-10 (see below). "The Coast" "She Moves On" "Proof" "Born at the Right Time" "The Cool, Cool River" "The Obvious Child" "Can't Run But" "Spirit Voices" "Further To Fly" "The Rhythm of the Saints"

Reach in the darkness, a reach in the dark...to dominate the impossible in your life. :^) Always keep trying, always keep reaching.

I listened to this so hard in high school, unaware of the controversy surrounding it. As a concept album it worked brilliantly. I don't think there's a single track I don't love, but some I love more than others. I'd probably put in my top ten albums of all time.

I know this was a controversial album for him, but I am so happy he released it. This is his best work in my opinion.

Definitely better than Graceland. One of Paul's best. Both musically & lyrically. Especially The Cool, Cool River and Can't Run But. Such rich use of different instruments.
