Paul Rodgers was the vocalist for bands Free, The Firm and Bad Company, and more recently stood in on vocals on a tour with Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen as a new collaboration titled Queen + Paul Rodgers. On this tour, Paul stressed that he was not trying to replace the band’s deceased singer Freddie Mercury, but tried his best to give his own style to the songs.

Rodgers never said he was a replacement for Freddie, actually he himself said he can't replace Freddie. That said, I never felt that his voice was a match for Freddie's either, not because "ZOMG Freddie is bettar lol", but because it's just so different. But probably that was the way to go anyways.
