Beautiful Night (5:07)

Cover of Flaming Pie

From Flaming Pie and 6 other releases

“Beautiful Night” is a song by Paul McCartney and is the 13th track on his 1997 album Flaming Pie. In December 1997, it was released as the third and final single from that album, peaking at number 25 in the UK Singles Chart. The song features the first of two collaborations McCartney performed with Ringo Starr on Flaming Pie (the second being “Really Love You”) as well as an orchestration by George Martin, recorded at Abbey Road Studios.

The video accompanying the single was directed by Julien Temple. Appearing in the video were Ringo Starr, Linda McCartney (her final appearance in a music video) and the band Spud (although they are shown performing with McCartney, they did not contribute to the recording of the track).

Someone's gone out fishing, someone's high and dry
Someone's on a mission to the lonely Lorelei
Some folk's got a vision of a castle in the sky
And I'm left stranded, wondering why

[2] It sounds crazy but I guess what I love most about this song are the verses. It's a great song in general, with a great refrain and great orchestra and great jam at the end and everything, but the verses are just beyond this world. Maybe the best verses ever in a song. Just so damn great in tune and lyrics about the "perfect way to spend an afternoon". It fits so well with the strings and Paul's voice and it just touches my soul.

Perhaps this is the closest take Paul made based on his Beatles' experience

Such a great song. It gives me the impression of a combination of "Something," "Real Love," and "Maybe I'm Amazed."

Probably my favorite from Flaming Pie. Just Paul, Jeff and Ringo (and orchestra). It's good to hear Ringo singing in the end jam.
