The gorgeous title track to Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny's singular 1981 album "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" plays like the soundtrack to some indescribably suspenseful and possibly even disturbing film. Anyone who likes Explosions in the Sky or Godpeed You! Black Emperor or Silver Mt. Zion really ought to give it a listen. The other cuts range from the joyful to the sacred to the moody. An altogether hypnotic, haunting and quite unfairly neglected masterpiece of modern jazz by two virtuosos who are tops in their field.
