• Top releases of 2014

    30 Dec 2014, 14:32 by nassuttaja2

It is once again time to list some stuff. It is also once again time for me to wonder why the hell I always leave making this list to the last couple of weeks before the year ends. One would think that I'd learn something from a mistake I have now made for five years in a row... oh well. I recently went through my lists from 2012 and 2013, and I am surprised by how well they still hold up in 2014 (in the lists from 2009 to 2011 things start to get a bit funky). I guess my taste hasn't changed that radically over the last three or so years in terms of disliking things I have liked in the past, but the scale of my listening habits has definitely grown in terms of new interests. As always, this year's list is very much all over the place, but that is how I like it. This is a true representation of the type of stuff that I enjoy listening to on a daily basis. None of the albums listed made it because I thought they deserved to be included, but because I wanted them to be included.

  • 2010 overview in grind, sludge, and nicer music

I know I'm late. Can't travel back in time, anyhow. If I had to, I'd say that 2010 took the cake in the sludge / slower department in general; bands like Thou, Harvey Milk, Cough, The Body, the new, improved version of Bastard Noise, and much, much more (and sure, I've missed some potentially ace / probably metal ones, e.g. the new Immolation, but I don't really care to hear about it unless it's grind). Not to worry, though, 'cause I've suffered through a great lot of blastbeats anyhow. Deliberately ignoring a lot of titles like, uh, the new Rotten Sound EP, there was still a metric fuckton of boring, vapid, cliched material left to feed on my compulsive urges, so here's a belated New Year's Fuck You to myself. Before indulging into the humongous, cryptic pile of text below (an overview of 2010 releases without a rating system), stop idolizing and romanticizing whatever shit you like to listen to. If you wished to do so, you could download just about any of these releases by typing the band name…
  • and so, here is, the best of the worst year ever (in KMFCM's eyes anyway)(edited)

    2009 FUCKING SUCKED A HYENA’S ASS
And bad years make for awesome music. Unfortunately, bad years also mean I’m barely in the mood to listen to anything not abrasive like ever. There’s no hip hop top 5 this year, for one thing. I heard a Papoose mix tape, Raekwon, Cage(and well . . .not top 5 material) and. . . . Cage. Everything just gets integrated into the top 40 this time around. Really, fucking awful year. . . .for damn near everyone. I’m gonna add a top 10 shows this year, because the only good things that happened this year were shows.
The late bloomers got to see The Jesus Lizard and Dinosaur Jr. and Built to Spill hit the stage. . . .and yeah, the only band that was actually broken up was the Jesus Lizard.
Granted, this year you had a few colossal disappointments, due to the continuing mainstream-ization of all we hold dear. That won’t last too long though. When does Headbangers Ball come on now? 4:30 in the morning for a half hour? Lemme guess…
  • good lawd that's a lot of verdicts. .

    . . . yeah
I said, last post, that the days of things leaking and showing up on music blogs en mass were about to come to an end. .

    . . ..and then. . .

    like 20 albums showed up

so many, I doubt I'll be able to remember them all. . .

    i'll try though. . .

Brutal Truth - evolution through revolution
. . .this is streaming somewhere. . .I found out last night and listened to it. . .and then listened to it again. . .and then listened to it again. . .and then listened to it again. . .I don't think I went to bed til 1:00.
I'm not one of these people that think if a band comes back from a breakup and records new shit it's automatically gonna suck. . .but I'll be damned if Brutal Truth didn't just pull the best comeback ever.
For real, between this and For The Love Of (that's an 8.5, by the way), Coalesce better bring it.
I actually like this better than Sounds. . . .and I'm not one of those kids that hates on Sounds (hell, it was one of the first actual grind albums I ever heard). …

  • Here it is my freinds. . . . . . .the best of 200(h)8

    22 Dec 2008, 00:47 by KMFCM

    2008 fucking sucked. . . . . . . . . . .

. . .and as we all know, bad years make for DAMN GOOD TUNES
and that's good, because tunes were pretty much the only good thing about this year.

(jury is still out on certain historic events for this brotha here)

This year gave all us musical late bloomers a chance to experience former glory with the likes of Carcass, My Bloody Valentine, Polvo, Vision of Disorder, At the Gates, Hellnation, Overcast and quite a few more (and I didn't get to see Polvo)
returning to the stage, some of them possibly permanently (Earth Crisis, Vision of Disorder and Flesh Parade are among those making new albums as we speak. . . . . . and apparently MBV will too. Stranger things have happened, Chinese Democracy came out.)

Of course, everyone I talk to is BURNED THE FUCK OUT and can't think of TWO things they liked this year. . .

    meanwhile, I liked so much shit, I actually have a top 40. . . . . .

  • VERDICTS!

眞呼 - buried by the light
holy shit dude. This song is fucking insane.
The guitars are all droning and shoegazey, like Fiction or Lush or Cocteau Twins. Mako sounds just as cool as ever, even singing in English. I've yet to see the lyrics, and I can't tell what he's saying still. He doesn't hold any note for ridiculous amounts of time or anything, but shit, this song rules. A lot of people are disappointed in it(go fig, I liked "in the direction. . ." more than most poeple did). I wonder if maybe they expected it to sound like Deadman? Aie isn't there. . .so. . . Maybe they expected it to sound like Malice Mizer since Kozi is playing guitar.
I was surprised to find that Mako wrote the music. If this is the kind of stuff dude writes, I hope he composes more songs. I've listened to this a whole lot.
    10/10

    Shai Hulud - Misanthropy Pure
    Good news first.
The energy that was missing from That Within Blood Ill Tempered is totally back. Lots of speed on this one. You'll be surprised by the amount of fast parts. …
  • A - Z (and beyond) of Bands Who Deserve More Fucken Respect

What the hell... everyone else here has one of these damn things, I might as well toss my severed head into the ring as well... I'm not saying that every band on this list shows up in my wet dreams, they're all just worthy of a listen, if nothing else. They may only have a song or 2 that I like, or they may be one of my favorite bands ever. Those greatest of heroes, the best of the best (OK, just my personal favorites, or ones I want to get more attention for some reason, or just whatever's been rattling my snake this week) will be listed in bold - like that. Anyway, enough foreplay, let's ride...

    Abaddon Incarnate
    Abigor
    The Abominable Iron Sloth
    Aborym
    Abriosis
