Biography

There are two bands with the name Parallels:

1. Parallels is an group based out of Toronto, Canada consisting of front-woman Holly Dodson (vocals, keyboards), Nick Dodson (drums) and Artem Galperine (live keyboards). Past members include Cameron Findlay (drums, composer, producer) and Joey Kehoe (keyboards).

Parallels began in 2008 through an exchange of emails between Holly and former member Cameron Findlay, which turned into their debut single “Ultralight”. After Findlay returned to Toronto at the end of Crystal Castles’ 2008 tour, Findlay and Dodson turned their main focus to the development of Parallels. They found co-writing to be a refreshing break from working solo – each bringing their diverse musical backgrounds to their new project – stemming in ambient electronic music and seventies pop, meshed with cold synthetic sounds.

Parallels recorded the material for their first album during 2009 titled Visionaries which was then independently released on Marigold Productions in February 2010.

Their second album, XII, was released in June 2012 on Marigold Productions.

They also released “First Mover” on 01/07/11

I guess Visionaries will fall under the rubble of history; and be unearthed in another 25 years, to be viewed thru the skewed prism of retrospect.

That was pretty annoying but thanks to the link I'm now listening to and enjoying Kontravoid. I didn't know what the hell you guys were talking about before. :P

I blame this on the never-changing pic of Holly.

No doubt the new LP will better 'Kontravoid', which is absolute garbage. I actually enjoyed some of Holly's pre-Parallels solo music. But to be optimistic when we've lost the potential legacy of 'Visionaries'.. I dunno.

I like the new album quite a lot, and I think Holly's more than capable of writing entrancing melodies on her own (see "Days of Summer," "Things Fall Apart," "Time Will Crawl"). My only gripe is that the album is mastered a little too loudly and there are a few technical glitches here and there. "Visionaries" was beautifully produced.

Love & Devotion sounds like a lost Stacey Q / SSQ track!

Agree 100% with frogjab. New album is very meh. :( Sucks, because I loved Visionaries.

'Xii' is completely different deal. 'Visionaries' has it's unique strong atmosphere haunts me every single listen. Melancholy shadowy visionary music from beyond the looking glass, cold and dark but enticing and caressing at the same time. Xii is just an ordinary pop with 80s romantic touch that is nice to dance and have fun to but it's not what i expected from them.

New album is nice! Not sure yet if I like it better than Visionaries though

Looking forward to hearing the album in full when it comes out on cd, but the tracks I have heard sound just as strong as the first album.

Liking the new songs as well. Pretty solid overall, even if I kind of miss Cameron's sinister beats.

I personally love the "Visionaries" tracks more. Although, i do like the new stuff and Holly is a more than capable musician/songwriter. She's gonna do great and i support her 100%.
