PK Fire is an American band from Michigan. The band features Kurtis Roy, Paul Cherewick, Nick Galli, Taylor Jeffers, and Andrew Adams. The band has recorded and released three EPs, the most recent of these being These Bleak Weeks, released in November 2011.

PK Fire was formed in June 2008 by Plymouth-Canton Educational Park classmates Paul Cherewick and Kurtis Roy in Plymouth, Michigan. Initially, the band was folk music oriented, with Cherewick playing banjo and Roy guitar. The group’s name is both an allusion to a move in Super Smash Bros. and a play on the first initials of Paul and Kurt.

PK Fire added a third member, Andrew Adams later in 2008. Instrument arrangements for this trio were very fluid. Adams played drums, bass, and guitar, Cherewick played banjo, guitar, and vocals, and Roy played drums, bass, banjo, synthesizer, guitar, and vocals. The band’s live shows consisted of folk songs and electric songs. Adams left the group in 2009.

In July 2009, PK Fire added Taylor Jeffers on bass and Nick Galli on drums. With their addition, the line up solidified. Cherewick continued to offer banjo, guitar, and vocals, and Roy played guitar, synth, and vocals.

The group’s debut EP, Cardboard Box Friends, was released in January 2010. It was marketed as folk pop, and featured all acoustic instrumentation. Friends of the band Elise Chagas, Jeff Garcia, and Avery Bruni played cello, trumpet, and violin for the recording, respectively.
