Agreed, not the best. But good fortune, big exit, whores hustle, wicked tongue are superb songs. She's using so much flange on her vocals - it should have a more experimental psychedelic feel, but it doesn't

No, it wasn't aimed at any particual person from this shoutbox. I just wanted to spot such a tendency among some listeners and PJ fans, who toss this album out just because it features several accessible or relatively plain tracks. PS Although I love plenty of stuff here, I also must admit there are a couple of the most relentlessy boring songs in her career ;)

I also agree with deardeadfriend. The first three tracks are AWESOME, then the rest of the album is auto-pilot boring.

I hope that isn't aimed at me. I wasn't using the word 'commercial' in a pejorative sense. I agree with deardeadfriend, anyway: this is the least interesting PJ Harvey album.

All these people who think that hating 'commercial' (whatever it means in their opinion, although I don't consider this album mainstream) music makes them knowledgeable and sophisticated... Ridiculous.

I think this is a masterpiece. It a shame so many people are sheep. This may be her most 'commercial' album but if you think this is 'commercial' or even mainstream, you don't remember what bands were massive in the year 2000/2001 the period this album was released. This was so far removed from all that, cause it doesn't sound dated at all!!

Oh, PartysanCTG is here again, with his cliche Loveless avatar, to teach us all about record production. 'If I talk about the drum sound I will sound knowledgeable'. Urgh. And of course this is her most commercial record.

Wow what a pretentious group of fans complaining about it not being 'proper PJ Harvey' amongst other things, it's a top album by a top musician, don't be so butthurt that she has more fans after releasing a good album.

I don't dislike it because it's mainstream, I dislike it because the lyrics are average and the melodies are boring and weak. "Big Exit", "Good Fortune", "A Place Called Home" are good, though. The only bad album Polly has written.
