Orville came from a family of working musicians living in northern New Jersey. His mom, ‘Ann Knight’, was a member of the musician’s union, and was a vocalist that played the upright bass in many clubs around northern NJ. His dad sang in The Par-Troy barbershop chorus, Parsipany, NJ. His brother was also a member of the musician’s union in northern NJ and still plays the upright bass.

He lived in NJ, then attended 8th grade through his sophomore year in high school in The Hague, Holland. While in Europe, he was able to travel to most countries in western Europe. He had a great experience playing lead guitar in his first band, ‘Uncle Fist’.
He lived in Hopatcong NJ. He came to visit his brother, Robert, in Morgantown in May 1988, and liked it there so much he stayed. He became involved in the music scene right away, attending all the open mics in town, and eventually hosting many of them. He played in some bands with many great musicians. The bands he played in were: Moon, Nada, The Red Oak Social Club which later became The Red Oak Conspiracy, The Trailer Park Messiahs, The Karl Shuman Band, Grand Safari, MGW, and The Recipe.
The Brick Row Music Group, a local common record label with many artists using the name, was placed in his care by the previous care-taker, Larry Fritche. Most of the recordings on the label are still available from individual artists websites.
