One of the first tracks I heard by Opeth. Completely and utterly blew my mind, and still does.
26 Feb 2015, 3:04pm
mmmmh...reminds me of glass arm shattering by Porcupine Tree..
2 Oct 2014, 10:01pm
The track that got me into opeth, and by extension progressive metal.

Glorious! Opeth never goes wrong
4 May 2014, 9:23pm
great ending for watershed.

Why thank you, kind sir!

The bass at the beginning dominates. Duh Duh Dutta Dooooooooo. This has somehow turned out to be one of my favorite Opeth songs of all time.

v Literally the most pretentious thing I've ever heard, yet I can't be mad at you. You deserve a medal.

What a riff, sounds like a galaxy being folded into an elegant origami shape.

Heir Apparent isn't good... it's amazing!

Who the fuck says Heir Apparent isn't good? I will kill them!

OPETH ROCKS !

Mike is clearly a Nintendo fan. The Lotus Eater has a section that sounds like the Mario underground theme, and this one sounds like Ocarina of Time's forest temple.

Hearing this song live at Sonisphere Knebworth, really got me into this song.Great song.

My favorite track from Watershed. Very atmospheric and "organic" feeling. Gives me chills every time I listen to it.

Best. Riff. Ever.

@thedreamforce, buddy I completely agree on your description of this song but you're wrong when you say that is the reason why it is better than The Lotus Eater. If your idea/definition of the ideal song is something that is slow and climaxes and is coherent than fine. But you can't shove your opinions of what "ideal" music should sound like. Lots of people prefer twisted transitions in songs, or would rather the song be as interesting as often as possible. Lots of songs considered the greatest of all time are not coherent at all. There are just too many people/perceptions of preferable music to ever say one song is better than another with completely different structures/moods/intentions (thus subjectivity, obviously).

All Opeth songs are awesome. I just hate those comments like "Heir Apparent isn't that good blaablaa".. They are all perfect. I don't believe there is one Opeth song that I don't like.
17 Mar 2011, 10:42pm
Dare I say, the best off Watershed.
23 Feb 2011, 12:02pm
agreed with underneath me, it's so minimalistic at moments and still so moving:)
17 Feb 2011, 11:03pm
@BigDaddy555666: It IS better than Lotus Eater because it builds toward a climactic ending. It has more momentum when it reaches the final riff. The Lotus Eater is "just" a compilation of REALLY awesome parts that doesn't form much of a cohesive whole. Hex Omega has a massive, epic feel while The Lotus Eater feels more like "OMG THIS IS AWESOME" in parts. Listening to it is like watching a technically impressive but in-cohesive art film; it damn well looked good, but you don't feel too much when it's over.

Lovely mood. Indeed! Bloody beautiful. :3

Hex codes: 3C9 for small Omega and 3A9 for capital Omega. What could this possibly mean?
15 Nov 2010, 4:45am
Sounds really like a Blackwater Park track, for me. And I love it.

"i just started listening to opeth..i can tell already this will be one of my favorites" Sigh.......

gotta change pants after hearing this

How is the possibly the best song of the album? It's not bad, mind you. But it's not that great. (Unless someone wants to explain why it is?)

"After a year and more of Watershed, I've realised that C) Hex Omega IS the best song of the album. "

"After a year and more of Watershed, I've realised that A) Heir Apparent and The Lotus Eater are not as good everyone says, B) Porcelain Heart is actually a good song, people can't stand that it's a single by Opeth and C) Hex Omega is probably the best song of the album. " so true!

This is definetly top 3 on Watershed. Lovely mood.

"Hex Omega is a sign of the deteriorating quality of Opeth's music." Are you kidding?? This song is one of the best on Watershed! Opeth are slowly taking a different direction with their music and they're just getting better and better.

deadwing1411's right...and that '3:48-4:01' part sounds like something from clockwork orange, i can't help...

Quite possibly my favourite from Watershed. And, yes, deadwing1411 - definitely.
5 Aug 2009, 1:39am
the riff at 5:20 reminds me so much of Alice in Chains
