About this album

Deliverance is Opeth’s sixth studio album, following the band’s highly successful 2001 album, Blackwater Park. It was recorded between July 22 and September 4, 2002 (see 2002 in music), at the same time as Damnation, which was released the following year. The two albums contrast starkly with one another, as Deliverance is considered to be one of the band’s heaviest albums, whereas Damnation experimented with a much mellower progressive rock-influenced sound.

Deliverance and Damnation were originally intended to be released as a double album, but the band eventually decided against this and released them separately, approximately six months apart from one another.

As great as this heavier album is I prefer the more mellow Damnation.

For me this is more Death Metal than the others, what makes it inferior IMO. Still a good album, btw.

seems like a lot of people see this as inferior to a lot of other Opeth albums, but personally I think it's one of their better efforts.

Funny. This was the first album I got into of theirs. The title track was the watershed, if you will, that drew me in.

Master's Apprentices doesn't want to scrobble for me if I have listened to it from my phone. Everything else does. Dams lastfm simple scrobbler!
