Biography

Oneohtrix Point Never is the recording name of Brooklyn-based experimental musician Daniel Lopatin. Lopatin’s music has been described as “gentle eddies of sound”, and “like a cracked mirror refracting the sounds of the past”. Lopatin is a first-generation American, the son of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Lopatin’s 2010 album Returnal, released by Editions Mego, was placed at number 20 on Pitchfork Media’s “The Top 50 Albums of 2010” list.

Lopatin was chosen by Animal Collective to perform at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival that it curated in May 2011.

Lopatin graduated from Hampshire College, where he worked with Christoph Cox and Daniel Warner, and earned a master’s degree in library and information science from Pratt Institute.

He also runs the record label Software Recording Co., a subsidiary of Mexican Summer and Kemado Records.

In 2013, Lopatin signed with Warp Records. His label debut, R Plus Seven, was released September 30, 2013. He also is responsible for writing the score of the movie The Bling Ring together with Brian Reitzell. Additionally, two of his songs appear on the movie’s soundtrack: Ouroboros (credited as Oneohtrix Point Never, previously released on Returnal) and Bling Ring Suite (credited as Brian Reitzell and Daniel Lopatin).

I saw this clip on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac4IdThGRSk - not a great recording but what I can make out sounds pretty fucking banging. I hope he releases some of this new music after he's done touring. Also it'd be cool to see an OPN boiler room set or something.

Been listening to way too much Rifts and Returnal as of late. I feel like that sound is where he is going back to. Loved R + 7 tho

Describing Bodies + Stress Waves would be nowhere near as effective without Nil Admirari before them. Seems less about what it is in itself and more about how it effects what comes afterwards. That said, I think it's great anyway and Returnal as an album is very well bookended.

So, I'm the only human being that don't like Nil Admirari that much. Maybe it's because a "suicide caller" for someone that have tinnitus, like me.
